There's a ton of great coffee places in L.A., but the place I frequent more than any other is Cognoscenti Coffee at Proof Bakery in Atwater Village. It helps that I'm friends with Yeekai, who's often there pulling shots and brewing pourover coffees to order. Yeekai was formerly an architect (who still has his own private design firm, miL Studios) that just loves coffee as a beverage. He's incredibly passionate and has a terrific palate for coffee. You can get a chance to try some coffees from Four Barrel, a top roaster from San Francisco, along with a kale salad and cheese plate. The jams, pickles and spreads will be furnished by SQIRL, a local Eastside artisnal maker that has some excellent products. I've gotten a chance to try her apricot jam in a warm doughnut hole (amazing) as well as some strawberry jam swirled into Proof's coffee cake, which was one of the best I've ever had.
The event takes place next Wednesday, August 3rd from 4-8PM, with tastings every half hour. At 7PM, there will be a poetry reading by Poetic Research Bureau. The cost is a mere $18, including coffee and food.
