As the official fiance of my dearest Christine (choisauce), my job is to give her the best possible memories. I really hope that I did that this last weekend which was filled with so much good food and travel that I might have fulfilled my vacation itch for the year (actually not really because I've booked tickets to Japan in just 2.5 weeks).
Some of you might know that the NY trip did not happen. I was very sad. But instead we drove up to Yountville and had the meal of our lives at The French Laundry.
Of course to most people, The French Laundry is a fine restaurant, the La Pyramide of our day with a nobel chef named Thomas Keller instead of Fernand Point. It takes a trip to get here, like our hundreds-of-mile drive from Los Angeles.
The details are still to come in a full post, but after the meal, we sat on a humble bench across the street from the celebrated restaurant. Overlooking a beautiful garden and the perfectly green hills of Napa Valley, I got on my knees and asked the most gorgeous woman in the world to marry me.
In tears (of joy hopefully) she said yes. A cool breeze, the warmest of hugs, the sweetest of kisses.
The real adventure starts now, and I can't hardly wait.
Funnily enough, we finished off our trip with a quick stop in Berkeley where we "indulged" in delicious vegan Japanese food at Cha-Ya. They've convinced me that vegan food 'can' be good. The whole meal doesn't hold a candle to a salmon cornet with creme fraiche though.

Squeeeee! Congratulations and best wishes to you both!
Congrats to you both bro :)
Make sure my status as Uncle Stinky happen. Pronto!
WeezerMonkey: thanks!
Kung Food guy: Stinky, you won't get uncle status for at least a handful of years, so don't even think about it! But Uncle Stinky does have a special ring to it. You do sound like one of my real uncles with that encouragement hahaha
Awww..... Congrats! I'm so happy for you 2 lovebirds!
Are we going to get the set of parallel proposal entries a la Dylan and Jeni? What happened to NY? I was curious why you ended up doing it TK marathon
And here I was thinking that you were going to pop the question at Per Se on your NY trip. Well, I guess FL is close enough. ;) Congratulations.
"The real adventure starts now, and I can't hardly wait."
That's a nice way of sayin it. From a k9 to a homo sapien: Congrats & much good luck!
So, everyone wants to know what it was you ate while you were doing your french laundry which suddenly made you fall to your knees and speak such words!
Congratulations! The 'being engaged' part of a relationship is really fun. Wishing you many happy family meals in the future.
Eileen: thank you!!
Aaron: it probably won't be parallel entries. Christine's take will be completely different than mine, which is how I like it :) And I think Thomas Keller Marathon is completely different than random Mexico trip
Kevin: I wouldn't have been so eager to make it happen at either of those two places if it wasn't for your endorsement (especially at FL)
Cafe Pasadena: you'll find out soon enough! the meal was beyond amazing...it's really something that takes hours to mentally digest, but when it starts hitting you, you're really transformed on so many levels. it's that good.
Jonah: thanks! I'm really looking forward to this chapter of our relationship, I think it will be fun!
throwing another congrats into the sea here!
Too bad the NYC trip didn't happen (just found out now!) but looks like you made awesomer memories in your Plan B (for better?) NorCal excursion!
