Let's Be Frank: A Supreme Hot Dog

Some of you may have heard the media blitz on Kogi (sarcasm). How about you a food truck that's actually worth its weight in pickles and grilled onions? I've read about this beloved hot-dog truck for a long time now, but the opportunity to enjoy it on a regular basis came by when Sue Moore, the wonderful proprietor of Let's Be Frank, decided to park fortuitously in front of Silver Lake Wine, a regular (perhaps TOO regular) haunt of Christine and me. You can participate in Silver Lake Wine's Thursday night tastings which feature a set of three white wines and three red wines for $12 a flight.

You can see Christine's anticipation as Sue puts the grilled hotdog, which is made from grass-fed, pasture raised beef and packed with omega-3 fatty acids (and purportedly lower in calories as well!). In addition, the pork she uses for the amazing bratwurst and spicy sausage comes from a family farm. In all, their motto of "Dogs Gone Good" comes from the fact that the products they use are environmentally conscious, ethically raised, and local (beyond organic). Ultimately, it comes down to taste.

Trust me when I say that these are truly amazing hotdogs, with squishy, delicious buns that come straight from the steamer (though they spend a minute or so on the grill as well). The meat has a nice snap (though not harsh) and the grilled onions and house-pickled pickles are sublime. The whole thing comes together with a stream of deli mustard. I added a bit of sauerkraut on this one, but house-made pickles are available (get there earlier if you want to get them). I scarf down one or two every Thursday, depending on my appetite (or how well Christine is able to restrain me). After a few tastings of wine, perhaps nothing is better. At $5 a pop, it's a quick way to bliss.
